Possible bird poaching in Brunei

SUBJECT: Possible bird poaching in Brunei

SOURCE: Anonymous

DOCUMENT DESCRIPTION: Message (Grade 3)

COLLECTION DATE: March 09, 2014

ACTION: Published

“While on a recent trip to Brunei, I saw multiple parties engaging in what seemed to be poaching of birds and/or other animals. (I’m unfamiliar with local laws, so I apologize if this is a actually legal.) During my short stay in western Brunei, I spend several hours over two days bird watching along a rode that is labeled as “Jalan Mumong” on Google Maps but may go by a different name locally. This road runs south from the city of Seria along the Belait River. Both days, there were multiple vehicles parked along the rode and what seemed like traps to my inexpereinced eyes were visible from the rode. The spots where the vehicles stopped seemed to be marked by small reflective markers or metal scraps. All the vehicles I can remember had Malaysian license plates.”
