Manta slaughter in the Philippines

SUBJECT: Manta Slaughter in the Philippines

SOURCE: Anonymous

DOCUMENT DESCRIPTION: Message (Grade 3)

COLLECTION DATE: February 16, 2015

ACTION: Published.

TEXT (sanitized):

“I was recently in the barangay of Bungamar on the island of Bohol, Philippines and witnessed the slaughter of a very large Manta that was caught by fisherman. It was then systematically butchered by several in the barangay and “processed” and dried right there. It was my understanding that Mantas are protected and this was an illegal act. Is there anything that can be done?
